2015 Safe Schools Conference

Registration is now open for the 2015 annual Safe Schools Conference, “Keeping Our Children Safe: Strategies for Schools and Communities Safe Schools Conference.” This year’s conference will be held at the Hilton Harrisburg located in Harrisburg, PA on October 29-30, 2015. This conference is presented by the Center for Safe Schools and the Highmark Foundation in partnership with Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Mid-Atlantic Equity Center.
AGENDA HIGHLIGHTS
On Thursday, participants will choose from 12 half-day institute sessions on topics including cyberbullying, social media, suicide prevention, peer abuse, gaming addiction, compassion fatigue, lockdowns and more. Partner agency representatives will take part in a panel discussion highlighting their priorities for school safety and youth violence prevention, followed by a keynote address, speaker to be announced soon.
On Friday, a keynote session entitled, “Why Race and Culture Matter in Schools” by Tyrone Howard, Ph.D. will be featured. Dr. Howard is the Faculty Director, Division of Urban Schooling, the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Director of the Black Male Institute, Los Angeles, CA. He is also the author of “Why Race and Culture Matter in Schools: Closing the Achievement Gap in America’s Classrooms.”
Friday’s keynote session will be followed by over 16 different session workshop choices on topics including positive school climate, safe transportation, armed intruders, adult bullying, interagency collaboration, AEDY interventions, mandated reporter requirements and more.
The conference will conclude with a “Common School Hazards and Vulnerabilities” general session delivered in a game-show format. Don’t miss the exhibitor give-away at the conclusion of this session. The Conference adjourns at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014.
REGISTRATION FEE
The regular registration fee of $175/per person will be charged for this high quality, two-day training event through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. Any registration received thereafter will be charged the late/onsite registration rate of $275/per person.
