Fundraising with Direct Mail

In this smartphone age – is direct mail still relevant? YES! Learn why and how to create all the elements of a direct mail plan including best practices, projections and strategies. We will:
- Determine the role of Direct Mail throughout your development plan
- Plan, create, and evaluate a direct mail campaign
- Discuss the differences between acquisition and renewal
- Create the metrics for benchmarking your results
- Learn overall postal regulations and importance of mail house partners
If applicable, please bring a copy of your direct mail piece and, if known, the performance of the piece (response rate, cost, total raised). If you do not have this information, you will learn how to build it into your planning! The strategies presented in this session will help nonprofits build a direct mail strategic plan that includes a timeline, budget, messaging, segmentation, and the opportunity to review and deconstruct a direct mail letter to understand the strategies of each section.
The speaker will be Marcia Wallander, Director of Development at Adagio Health. Marcia has more than twenty-five years of development experience at Carlow University, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Family House, Carnegie Mellon University and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital. She has extensive experience in creating and managing direct mail programs with significant success in building projections, donor bases, increasing renewal rates and raising unrestricted dollars. Marcia has managed direct mail and online giving programs ranging from $25,000 to in excess of $2 million annually and believes that detailed and strategic planning is the key for a successful direct mail program.
The fee to attend this workshop is $20 per person which can be paid at the door with cash or check made payable to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Space is limited and registration is required by calling the Nonprofit Resource Center at 412.622.6277.
