pghcares

Join us at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (Lawrenceville Branch, 279 Fisk Street) on Tuesday, March 22nd at 10am for a special FREE training session, generously sponsored by Highmark.

Reach 7 Generations Successfully!

This interactive session, led by Randy Detweiler and Sylvia Lynn, will educate participants on how to bring everyone together to benefit the organization. All seven current generations will be discussed. We will discuss how to manage this mixture of ages, individuals, values and views. How to build nontraditional workplaces, exhibit flexibility, emphasize respectful relationships and focus on retaining talented volunteers.

Presenters:
Randy Detweiler has worked with the seniors of Allegheny County for 24 years: Four years for the Department of Aging, two years as Provider Relations Specialist for Senior Services at Jefferson Hospital, and the last 18 years with the PALS (People Able to Lend Support) Volunteer Program for Highmark Senior Markets. He has been instrumental in growing the PALS program which provides free in-home services for Medicare members using volunteers to 29 Pennsylvania counties and 10 West Virginia counties. In addition to in-home services, he has implemented many clubs over the last 10 years to help keep seniors healthy. He has provided trainings for PALS for 18 years and offered volunteer trainings to volunteer administrators for the last 10 years.

Sylvia Lynn holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics Education from North Dakota State University. She was a Volunteer Coordinator for The Lutheran Service Society for 5 years prior to retiring. She taught pre-school through college age students, finding the challenges and the excitement for learning enjoyable. In retirement, she and her husband have had many volunteer experiences which keep them busy and engaged. She has served on her local school board and presently serves on the boards of her Church, Glade Run Children’s Services, Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry, and The Lutheran Student Center in Oakland.
