Looking at the Foundations for Young Adult Success: A Thought Leader Conversation with Camille Farrington

August 22, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

WED Aug 22, 2018 2:00 PM EST

A special invitation from the Forum for Youth Investment’s CEO Karen Pittman:

All frameworks are not created equal. Some are built to last. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is one of those. So is the Foundations for Young Adult Success Framework that was painstakingly built by the University of Chicago Consortium on School Research (UChicago Consortium). I have used the graphics and ideas from this framework in every relevant presentation I have made since the report’s release in 2015. It is relevant now more than ever as new frameworks and terminologies emerge and clash, especially around Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

The UChicago Consortium framework is conceptually complete and terminologically neutral. It brings joy and understanding to those who are loyal users of other frameworks as well as to those who were in search of a framework that helps them validate and tweak their own thinking. I am reminded of its value every time I visit the conference room of a youth organization we have worked with for the past two years. I scribbled the framework on Post-it paper to show them that there was theory and research behind their ideas. It still hangs on their wall. Join me as I interview Camille Farrington, one of the chief architects of the framework and a fellow Commissioner on the National Commission for Social, Emotional and Academic Development to learn why I am such a fan.
