One of the lasting legacies of the 1960s is the number of social justice movements that spanned the decade and led to lasting change. The History Center’s Detre Library & Archives contains many collections that document local people pushing for social change as part of the Civil Rights Movement, movements to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, and other important events. In this program, teachers will explore the archives for examples of local change agents and think about how these archives can be used to contextualize modern social justice issues.
