Water Your Garden of Knowledge: Educator Workshop (Session 2)

August 8, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Tue, August 8, 2017
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM EDT

Upper Saint Clair Library
Community Room
1820 McLaughlin Run Road
Pittsburgh, PA 15241

This workshop will focus on the national curriculum from Project WET and how to instill the value of water in early learners. We’ll complete hands on activities from Project WET’s Getting little Feet Wet Curriculum Guide and each participant will leave with a copy of the curriculum book ($30 value). We’ll break for lunch and then regroup at ALT’s conservation property Wingfield Pines in the afternoon, which is just a short drive from the library. At Wingfield Pines, we’ll explore a wetland habitat and an abandoned mine drainage (AMD) system. We’ll do some water testing on the system and do a study of how the water quality affects the macro-invertebrates or “mini beasts” that call the water their home. Participants should dress for the weather, rain or shine, and come prepared to get a little wet!

The workshop is being offered for free thanks to a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Act 48 is available for a $5 fee

Goody bags will be given to participants that attend all three sessions!
