Neighborhood Learning Alliance Training – Conflict Management

May 22, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

It has been said that “conflict is inevitable, but combat is optional.” Join us in this session as we talk about avoiding combat and teaching our students to do the same. We’ll focus on how unpacking our biases and baggage can improve interpersonal relationships and strengthen our ability to be role models for youth.

Trainer: Yvette L. Shipman grew up in Virginia, just outside of the DC metropolitan area. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications, and a Master of Arts degree in social and public policy with a focus on conflict mediation and peace studies. As a trained mediator, she employs open dialogue as a tool for engagement. Yvette is deeply committed to building community without walls, and with deep respect for individuals. Yvette practices looking beyond what’s uncomfortable or appears to be a bad or tough situation and finds value and gratitude, while encouraging participants in her sessions to do the same.
