Statewide Listening Tours – Share Your Thoughts on ESSA
December 2016 – Pittsburgh
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is hosting a series of public meetings to obtain feedback on Pennsylvania’s state plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). PDE will provide background on the law and discuss the ongoing development of Pennsylvania’s State Plan for its implementation.
Because afterschool is such an integral part of educational improvement, the different funding streams in the law may be used to provide afterschool programming:
- Title I school improvement funds for afterschool and summer programs
- Title II, Part B to provide grants for literacy instruction in partnership with afterschool programs
- Title IV, Part A funds to support STEM and college and career readiness opportunities in afterschool and summer programs
Afterschool Advocates are encouraged to review materials through the PSAYDN website and provide comments to PDE by emailing RA-edESSA@pa.gov.
