The Philanthropy Forum Presents Tonya Allen, CEO of the Skillman Foundation

March 29, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Tonya Allen, serial “idea-preneur”, and President & CEO of the Skillman Foundation, has led the foundation’s grant making toward a whole-neighborhood approach, aligning the complexities of education reform, urban revitalization and public policy to improve the well-being of Detroit’s children.

The Skillman Foundation, among the top five largest foundations in Michigan, is embedded in the Detroit community, providing an exemplary model of impact investing through bringing people and ideas together. In her lecture, Allen will lay out the framework for this approach and talk about the foundation’s latest efforts, in collaboration with public, private and non-profit entities, to close the growing divide and ensure equitable restoration of the city.

Allen will share the how the foundation dismantles inequity and fuels innovative partnerships that are intentional, creative and courageous, helping to nurture a thriving ecosystem for children’s success with a prosperity agenda- creating safer neighbors and great schools.

Following Ms. Allen’s lecture, local responses will be offered by Diana Bucco of the Buhl Foundation, Gregg Behr of the Grable Foundation, and Fred Brown of Homewood Children’s Village.

Light refreshments will be served. This is a free event that is open to the public, but seating is limited.
