transformED at AIU 3

January 11, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Center for Creativity at transformED for free professional development.

In this session, you’ll be provided an opportunity to explore the maker movement as a means of supporting learning and engagement of all students, including those with disabilities. Participants will be provided ample time to experiment with new technologies that support learners in acquiring foundational skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and computational thinking, along with circuitry, computer programming, robotics, and design thinking.

Steve Wheeler, Associate Professor of learning technology in the Plymouth Institute of Education at Plymouth University, has stated, “Students learn a number of skills and draw on a variety of subjects when they design and create objects.” The maker movement emphasizes supporting students in becoming active producers rather than passive consumers. Whether your school has a full fledged maker space or you simply are interested in integrating new technologies and practices in your classroom, this session will provide a crash course on hot to ensure making is accessible to all students.
