Following the success of the inaugural UnConference: Children+ Arts, PAEYC is excited to present version 2.0! This UnConference features an innovative and hands-on professional development session on the importance of arts in education.
The day begins with keynote speaker and spoken word artist Vanessa German from Love Front Porch, an organization in Homewood that believes in the power of love, art, and community. Then, participants will select from a series of two workshops by local arts organizations to learn about creative arts initiatives. At each workshop, there will be hands-on learning and a short presentation offering connections for educators to take back to their own setting. In addition, the UnConference will highlight how “Buzzwords,” a program promoting literacy, is incorporated into arts education programs. Workshop presenters include: Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Gemini Theater and Westmoreland Museum of American Art. The UnConference closes with a round table discussion geared to particular interest groups and topics.
The workshops are developmentally appropriate practice for educators and caregivers working with children ages birth through age nine (third grade). However, many of the workshop offerings also apply to students through fifth grade and after school programs.
