One Northside Youth eXcel (ONYX) is a joint effort of Northside youth service providers and community partners focused on supporting all Northside youth by preparing them for employment through afterschool and summer programs. The Buhl Foundation made a 20 year commitment to the Northside to focus on education, employment and place and has branded the initiative as One Northside.
The goals of ONYX include:
· Supporting & improving existing afterschool programs
· Increasing participation in out-of-school programs
· Increasing Northside employers providing placements and part-time jobs for teens
· Supporting & improving existing job-readiness programs
ONYX Partners are excited to work with Northside Families and support youth in the out-of-school time space!
The ONYX Program Directory includes Northside afterschool providers who are working towards meeting these goals. They offer programs with different types, focuses, and ages. The different types of programs and focus options that will be mentioned in this manual are listed below. Please e-mail apost@unitedwayswpa.org with questions.
The College and Career Roadmap is a tool made for the youth of Northside. Divided by age, the roadmap lists steps that can be taken to discover future career goals, and how to take the first steps toward those goals. Along with the roadmap are links to resources that can help get each action started.
