The position is based at our 3,500 square-foot Youth Media Center on Pittsburgh's Northside. The Staff Educator is a facilitator and mentor who guides young people through the process of discovering, developing, and sharing their voices through creation of podcasts, journalism, commentaries, interviews, and more. The Staff Educator is a part of a student-facing team that designs and facilitates a variety of programming including field trips, afterschool programming, workshops, and summer camps.

We are looking for Teachers and Teaching Artists to teach the following camps: Assemblage and Found Object Sculpture (27-31) and Book Making (August 3 - 7), and perhaps more. These camps run 3 hours a day for 5 days in July. We are looking for independent and artistic people to join our staff. The salary is $25/hour. You should have at last 3 years experience teaching children and good references. Your ideas and expertise are important to us as we are always looking for new ideas for camps. Must be: 18 years of age or a high school graduate, have current and valid PA Child Abuse Form, FBI Background Check, and PA Criminal History Background, have three years of experience working with children, have understanding of the developmental needs of youth, specifically ages 6-13. The Counselor will be assigned to a group of 10-12 campers with an instructor. Counselors are responsible for assisting instructors and occasionally leading activities, coordinating camp games, and guiding campers in their camp experience. Duties would include a range of responsibilities: prepare camp at the beginning of the day, keep track of registration, update as needed, check kids in and out of camp, update attendance forms daily, oversee staff, interns and counselors, assign Counselors to specific tasks, assist the director, teachers and kids as needed, monitor lunch and break activities, review emergency rules and safety procedures with campers and staff, review classroom management plan with campers and staff, help shop for camp supplies, staying within supply budget provided, help organize and maintain studio and galleries, check in with Director with update on any issues you may be encountering, carry out other duties as assigned by the Director, attend all required staff trainings and meetings, and help keep floors clean especially in front room and help sanitize work areas/tables regularly.
