Program Description
The Bel Canto Singers are the most advanced choristers in PYC. Members range from grade 6 and above and achieve this level only by progressing through the Troubadours and Talisman choirs. This group sings complex music, often in several foreign languages on the same program, representing numerous styles and cultures. Bel Canto Singers exhibit a strong commitment to the chorus, a willingness to learn music independently, and an eagerness to travel (and raise funds). Leadership qualities and exemplary behavior are equally as important as musical talent for a Bel Canto Singer. Members of the Bel Canto Singers are often recommended to audition for positions in national honor choir. The entire chorus has traveled nationally and has created an outstanding reputation for PYC in musical and educational circles. The “Bels” are frequently called upon to perform in collaborative performances with the Pittsburgh Opera and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
