Program Description
Our non-auditioned Neighborhood Training Choirs are open to children in second and third grade. As a beginning choral experience, Neighborhood Training Choirs provide an introduction to ensemble singing and music literacy and are the first stepping-stone to Pittsburgh Youth Chorus’ three-tiered program of choral education. The Neighborhood Training Choir program offers an exciting opportunity for young singers, as well as a convenient option for parents by providing exposure to PYC’s high-quality choral-education program in a location that is close to home. The short 12-week session gives families a peek into the PYC organization before making an extended commitment to join PYC’s core choir program. Offered in two 12-week sessions, in the fall and spring, the NTC curriculum focuses on singing, movement and musical games that enrich, teach and enhance basic music concepts and music reading skills. Singers will learn age-appropriate vocal technique as well as how to sing with musicality, movement and expression.
