Quantum Theatre Education Program—Neighborhood Academy

Return to our Program Finder

Program Description

Quantum conducts a high school residency project as a key activity in a range of educational programs. A teaching artist goes weekly into four inner-city high schools to help students interpret a classic play, a piece of literature, or an historical event in their own, contemporary terms. They work while Quantum’s artists are producing their similarly contemporary and unique interpretation of a play. The students use dialogue, rap music, and dance to express themes and characters, and come together to perform for each other and the professionals at a Quantum rehearsal in its unusual project location. They return to see the finished show at a special matinee. The Program teaches creative thinking skills, animates English and History curricula, and mixes students from many Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
